Japanese researchers visit banana farmers of Central province

NARI Southern Regional Centre (SRC), Laloki, hosted four Japanese research scientists and assisted them with logistics to undertake a survey in Hisiu and Pinu villages in the Central province, in August, 2017.

Good NARI representation at extension conference

A paper titled “Identifying value chain constraints for high value horticulture crops (Irish potato, Sweetpotato and Bulb onion) in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea” was among a number of papers from NARI presented at the International Conference on Agriculture Extension held at the University of Goroka last September.

Communities to benefit from solar mill project

A pilot project aimed at boosting rice production and improving food security will be rolled out to 30 communities in Morobe Province over the next two years. NARI in partnership with Project Support Services, Trukai Industries Ltd and the PNG Women in Agriculture Development Foundation will supply the communities with solar-powered rice mills.

NARI launches EU drought resilient project

A drought resilient project for coastal communities in Papua New Guinea was launched by NARI and key stakeholders at Kiriwina Island in the Milne Bay province on May 16 2017. This new EU-funded initiative, entitled “Strengthening food production capacity and the resilience to drought of vulnerable communities”, will be implemented in 11 provinces over the next four years (2017-2021).

Innovative agriculture is the way forward for sustainable and broad-based development in Papua New Guinea, says Paul Murphy, Australia' Lae-based Consul General.

Murphy said innovative agriculture must be supported by appropriate policies and strategies, including research and development.

Trukai partners NARI for domestic rice production

NARI and Trukai Industries Limited have reached an understanding to venture into a rice development partnership across a number of sites in Papua New Guinea.
