by Seniorl Anzu (29/12/09)

The National Executive Council (NEC) has re-appointed Dr Raghunath Ghodake as the Director General of NARI for another term of four years commencing December 9 2009. The appointment was made effective through gazettal by the Governor-General Grand Chief Sir Paulias Matane on December 16.

In announcing the appointment on Christmas Eve, NARI Council Chairman Dr John Kola said Dr Ghodake’s appointment was based on his performance as NARI Chief Executive Officer for the last seven years and his contributions to the Institute’s establishment, development and progress.

The NEC approval was based on recommendations from the Institute Council and Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (HERST) with endorsement from the Public Services Commission.

“Dr Ghodake has a wide experience and in-depth understanding and knowledge of agricultural research for development issues at the national and international level.
“His proven leadership in the Institute since its establishment 13 years ago has helped NARI progress on all fronts,” Dr Kola said.

“As you will appreciate a great deal has been accomplished by the Institute but a great deal still needs to be achieved in the immediate future to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of agricultural research and to achieve development impacts at the smallholder farming and rural community level in PNG.”

Dr Kola urged all staff to give their full support and co-operation to Dr Ghodake as the Chief Executive of NARI and help him lead the Institute in developing science-based agricultural technologies and knowledge for improved welfare of the people of PNG and national development.

Dr Kola also highlighted that NARI has been receiving the necessary support from the Government of PNG, AusAID, EU, ACIAR and a number of regional and international organisations and with Dr Ghodake’s continued leadership the momentum will continue.

In congratulating Dr Ghodake on behalf of the Council, he thanked all NARI staff, the Management, the Minister for HERST and the NEC, and all NARI donors, partners, and stakeholders for their continued and enhanced support to the Institute.
