The National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) is the leading Institute in Papua New Guinea for conducting applied, adaptive and development oriented research on food crops, livestock, alternative food and cash crops, and resource management issues; and providing technical, analytical and diagnostic services and information to the entire agriculture sector in Papua New Guinea.

Applicants are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the following positions, which are available for immediate recruitment. Positions are open to Citizens only.

1. Properties Officer – (Grade 10 – 12) – Based at NARI Head Office, Bubia – Lae

The incumbent will be required to assist the Assets and Property Manager with day to day management of infrastructure facilities, land properties and maintenance of assets to be made readily available and functional for agricultural research purposes at all NARI Centers throughout PNG. The candidate has to be a self starter and possess good computer skills. Good knowledge and hands on skills in computer aided drawing design and GIS is preferred.

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Building & Architecture, Property Management or similar with a minimum of three (3) years of work experiences. Applicants having diploma in the same field with more than 5 years’ experience are also encouraged to apply.

2. Information and Communications Officer – (Grade 11 – 13) – Based at NARI Head Office, Bubia – Lae

The Communications Officer reports to the Program Director – Information and Knowledge and will be responsible for major information and communication initiatives undertaken by the Institute within PNG and internationally. The job role also involves facilitating the dissemination and promotion of appropriate agricultural information and technological innovations to farmers and other stakeholders for enhanced agricultural and rural development through the use of the mainstream media, web-based information resources, publications and outreach.

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Information and Communication, preferably Masters in Communication Science and have a minimum of five (5) years work experience.

3. IT Associate – (Grade 10 – 11) – Based at NARI Head Office, Bubia – Lae

The IT Associate reports to the Manager – IT & Telecommunications and will be responsible for utilizing existing and recently developed tools and technologies to maintain computers, associated electronic equipment, and to  install and repairs computers, peripheral accessories, network devices, telephone equipment, and providing appropriate technical advice to management. The technician also maintains the television network on campus and other multi- media equipment.

Applicants should hold a Diploma in Information Technology, preferable a Bachelor’s degree or related discipline with a minimum of five (5) years of work experience.

4. Agronomist (2 x Positions) – (Grade 13 – 14) - Based at Momase Regional Center, Bubia

The position requires proactive planning and implementation of research projects on food crops, with particular emphasis on rice & gain variety evaluation for low and high altitude regions in PNG. Candidates must also have a sound understanding of research methodology, experimental design, statistical analysis, participatory research methods and should possess good writing and computer skills.

Applicants must have a Master of Science in Agriculture, preferably PhD with at least ten (10) years of research experience.

General: Grade and salary levels will depend on qualifications, experience and the ability of the appointee. Salaries and benefits include base salary, domestic market allowance, gratuity, superannuation, leave fares, amenities allowances, medical & life insurance and housing or housing allowance.
