2. Evaluation and Adaptation of Plant Derived Pesticides
The objective of the project is to assess optimal utilisation strategies, effectiveness and impact of new plant derived pesticide technologies for control of insect pests on vegetables by farmers in East New Britain Province and for extension elsewhere in Papua New Guinea. These technologies, based on extracts from easily grown derris, chilli and neem plants, were previously released by NARI for farmer use.
Current project activities include the production of extension materials, distribution of test materials to smallholder farmers for evaluation of effectiveness, and assessment of farmer acceptance, adoption and impact. Of particular emphasis is assessment of different methods of information delivery.
