Papua New Guinea has a rich and diverse flora and fauna. The National Agriculture Insect Collection (NAIC) houses some of these diverse fauna particularly for insects of economic importance.

An important activity we are embarking on is to undertake annotated catalog of Plant Bugs (Hemiptera: Miridae). Mirids are sap sucking bugs and are important pests of crops. This activity is being undertaken with the aim of improving consultancy, advisory and insect identification services of this insect to stakeholders. This will also improve the curation of all of our Miridae specimens to ensure their permanent storage and catalog their agricultural, ecological and taxonomical data. This will enable us to created a MS Access database of the Miridae collection; conducted a review of existing Mirdae ecology and agricultural and taxonomical data.
